With flag hoisting, parades, and other cultural events, on August 13th Pakistan marks its Independence. This national public holiday marks the date in 1947 when the country was declared a sovereign state following the end of the British Raj.

The flag of Pakistan was adopted in August 1947. The design consists of a five-pointed white star and crescent moon on a dark green field, with a vertical white stripe at the left hand hoist side.
