August 15th is Assumption Day, also known as the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, it is celebrated by Catholic followers in Mauritius and worldwide. This public holiday commemorates the day that the Virgin Mary was assumed bodily into Heaven.

Also known as ‘Four Bands’ or ‘Les Quatre Bandes’, the flag of Mauritius was adopted in March 1968. The design consists of four equal width horizontal bands of red, blue, yellow and green.
