The Italian Republic (Repubblica Italiana) is a country in Southern and Western Europe. Located in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea it shares borders with France, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, Vatican City and San Marino. Its official language is Italian. The capital and largest city is Rome.

Inspired by the French flag, the Italian Flag adopted in January 1946 upon the formation of the republic is known as ‘il Tricolore’. The design consists of three equal vertical stripes of green, white and red.
