Known as Bundesfeiertag, Fête nationale and Festa nazionale, a public holiday celebrated with bonfires, fireworks and lanterns is held in Switzerland on 1st August to mark its national day. 

The Swiss flag was adopted in April 1995. The flag is a square design with a white cross known as the Swiss or Federal Cross in the center of a red background.
