Montserrat is a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean, located southeast of Puerto Rico and southwest of Antigua and Barbuda. The official language is English. The de facto capital is Brades, following the abandonment of Plymouth due to volcanic eruptions.
The flag of Montserrat adopted in 1960, with the design updated in 1999 is a blue ensign featuring the Union Jack in the upper left corner and the territory’s coat of arms on the right. The emblem depicts a woman in a green dress holding a cross and a golden harp, symbolizing Montserrat’s Irish heritage and Christian faith.
