Seoul Special Metropolitan City 서울특별시 is the capital and largest city of South Korea, located in the northwestern part of the country along the Han River. Surrounded by the Namsan and Bukhansan mountains, it is home to over 9.6 million people, with a metropolitan population of 26 million, making it one of the largest urban areas in the world.

Seoul 서울 hosted the 1988 Summer Olympics, helping to showcase South Korea on the world stage, and later co-hosted the 2002 FIFA World Cup. K-pop and Korean cinema enjoy global fame, with idols topping charts and films earning major awards.

The flag of Seoul, adopted in 1996 is a white field with the country’s symbol at the center – the Korean letters for “Seoul” in the shape of a green mountain, red sun, and blue Hangang river, stylized to resemble human form.
