Monaco, also known as the Principality of Monaco is a sovereign country situated in the French Riviera close to the Italian region of Liguria in Europe. It is famous for the Monaco Grand Prix, an annual street circuit motor race, one of the original Formula One Grands Prix. Its official language is English and Monégasque, Italian and English are also spoken. The capital is Monaco city.
The flag of Monaco was adopted in April 1881. The design consists of horizontal bicolour of red and white. Red & white are the heraldic colors of the House of Grimaldi, the reigning family of the principality since 1297.
