Santiago de León de Caracas is the capital and largest city of Venezuela, located in the northern part of the country, in a valley of the Venezuelan Coastal Range. The 7,200-foot Cerro El Ávila mountain range separates the city from the Caribbean coast, the Metropolitan Region of Caracas has a population of around 5 million.

Bolivar Square (Plaza Bolívar) founded in 1567 is the historic city center with landmarks including Caracas Cathedral, Archbishop’s Palace and City Hall. The Plaza Venezuela at the geographical center is home to the Parque Central Towers, one of South America’s tallest skyscrapers.

The flag of Caracas is a central equilateral triangle featuring a blue sky and white star over a representation of the green mountains that surround Caracas, this is bordered by two red triangles.
