The Syrian Arab Republic (سُورِيَا or سُورِيَة) (Sūriyā) is a country in West Asia. It shares borders with Turkey, Iraq, Jordan, Israel and Lebanon. Its official language is Arabic. The capital and largest city is Damascus.

The current Syrian Flag was first adopted in 1958 and used until 1961. It was re-adopted in March 1981. The design consists of three horizontal stripes of red, white and black with two green five pointed stars at the center.
