The Syrian Arab Republic (سُورِيَا or سُورِيَة) (Sūriyā) is a country in West Asia. It shares borders with Turkey, Iraq, Jordan, Israel and Lebanon. Its official language is Arabic. The capital and largest city is Damascus.
After the fall of the Assad regime in December 2024 the Syrian transitional government began using independence flag based on a flag that was originally used in the country in 1930.
The previous Syrian Flag was first adopted in 1958 and used until 1961. It was re-adopted in March 1981. The design has three horizontal stripes of red, white and black with two green five pointed stars at the center.
