The Republic of the Philippines (Republika ng Pilipinas) is an island country in Southeast Asia. It is situated north of Indonesia and south of Taiwan in the western Pacific Ocean. Its official languages are Filipino and English. The capital city is Manila / Metro Manila. Its largest city is Quezon City.

The flag of the Philippines features two equal horizontal stripes of blue symbolizing peace and red for war. A white equilateral triangle is on the left (hoist) which incorporates a gold sun with 8 rays and three five-pointed gold stars. It was first adopted on the date of independence in 1898.
