The seventh month of the lunar calendar marks what is known as Ghost Month in Taiwan. Ghosts and Spirits are believed to visit the living, Buddhists and Taoists celebrate with lantern lighting, ritualistic food offerings and scripture readings.

Known as ‘Blue Sky, White Sun, and a Wholly Red Earth”’, the flag of Taiwan was adopted in October 1945. The design consists of a red field with blue canton featuring a white sun with twelve triangular rays.
