Flag of Liberia

26th July is Independence Day in Liberia. A public holiday with flags flying at events to mark the day in 1847 when the former colony of the United States declared independence.

Known as the Lone Star, the flag of Liberia which is similar to the US flag was adopted in August 1847. The design consists of eleven alternating red and white horizontal stripes. A five-pointed white star on a blue field is in the top left canton.
