Merkið (The Banner)

The Faroe Islands are an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark. Located in the North Atlantic Ocean, the island group includes 18 major islands. The official languages are Faroese and Danish. The capital and largest city is Tórshavn.

The flag was adopted in 1940. The design consists of a white field with a Nordic cross, where the vertical part of the cross is shifted towards the hoist side. The cross is red, bordered with blue.
