On August 13th the Catholic Church in Brazil celebrates the feast day of Saint Irmã Dulce Pontes. Known as Santa Dulce of the Poor this national day commemorates the day she became a nun.
Known as ‘A Auriverde’ the flag of Brazil was adopted in November 1889. The design consists of a green field with a yellow diamond in the center bearing a blue disk. A starry sky with 27 small white five-pointed stars including the southern cross and a white curved band emblazoned with the National Motto: “Ordem E Progresso” (Order and Progress), is incorporated into the blue disk.
