The Organization of Turkic States was established on 3 October 2009 in Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan by Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkey. The OTS aims to promote cooperation among Turkic-speaking countries in areas such as culture, crime, education, trade, transport and economy.

Who are members of the Organization of Turkish States?

Headquartered in Istanbul, the organization currently includes five member states: Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan. Hungary, Turkmenistan and Northern Cyprus hold observer status.

Formerly known as the Turkic Council, the organization also supports efforts toward developing a common Turkic alphabet of 34 letters based on the Latin alphabet, to enhance linguistic unity.

Organization of Turkic States Information

Adopted on 6 November 2024 in its current form and combining symbols of its members, the flag features the light blue of the flag of Kazakhstan, the sun of Kyrgyzstan, the star of the flag of Azerbaijan and the Turkish crescent.
