Flag of Wales

Wales, known as Cymru in the Welsh language, is a country which is part of the United Kingdom. It is bordered by England to the East. Its official languages are Welsh and English and its capital and largest city is Cardiff.

October 15th is Shwmae Sumae Day in Wales an annual celebration of the Welsh language; it is designed to raise awareness of the language and to encourage non welsh speakers to learn it. Shwmae and Sumae are informal greetings used in the south and the north of wales.

The flag of Wales (Y Ddraig Goch meaning ‘the red dragon’) was adopted in February 1959. The design consists of a large red dragon superimposed over two equal horizontal stripes of white and green.
