

Baku is the capital and largest city of Azerbaijan, located on the southern shore of the Absheron Peninsula on the Bay of Baku along the Caspian Sea. The largest city on the Caspian Sea and the Caucasus region is also the lowest-lying national capital in the world, at 28 meters below sea level.
The city is known for its mix of modern and historic architecture, wirth landmarks such as the Flame Towers, Heydar Aliyev Center, and the medieval Old City and Maiden Tower. Known as “City of Winds” due to severe winter storms, Baku has hosted major international events including the 2015 European Games, 2012 Eurovision Song Contest, and the Azerbaijan F1 Grand Prix.
The flag of Baku has a blue field with the city’s coat of arms in the center, featuring three golden flames, wavy blue stripes for the Caspian Sea, a thin gold border, and a brown section symbolizing petroleum resources.
