The British Virgin Islands (BVI) is a British Overseas Territory located in the Caribbean, east of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The official language is English. The capital is Road Town, situated on the largest of the islands, Tortola.

The flag of the British Virgin Islands, adopted on 15 November 1960 is a blue ensign with the Union Jack in the upper left corner, symbolizing its status as a British territory. On the right side is the coat of arms, featuring Saint Ursula holding a gold lamp, with eleven other lamps surrounding her, representing the 11,000 virgins who accompanied her. The motto “Vigilate” (Be Watchful) appears below the shield.
