Niue is a self-governing territory in free association with New Zealand, located in the South Pacific Ocean, east of Tonga and south of Samoa. The official languages are Niuean and English, and the capital is Alofi.

The flag adopted on October 15, 1975, features a yellow field symbolizing the warmth of the island. Over the Union Jack are five yellow stars: one large central star on a blue disc, symbolizing Niue and four smaller stars representing Niue’s relationship with New Zealand and its place in the Pacific.
