Cape Verde, officially known as the Republic of Cabo Verde, is an island country spanning an archipelago of 10 volcanic islands in the central Atlantic Ocean. It is located off the west coast of Africa. It is known for its Creole Portuguese-African culture and its many beaches. The official language is Portuguese. The capital city is Praia and the largest city is Mindelo.

The flag of Cape Verde was adopted in April 1992. The design consists of a dark blue field with three narrow horizontal stripes of white, red and white offset slightly below the center of the flag. Ten gold stars arranged in a circular formation centered around the red stripe are offset towards the left hand hoist side.

The national anthem: “Cântico da Liberdade” (Song of Freedom).
