Shizuoka is located in the Chūbu region on the Pacific coast of central Honshu. It covers about 7,777 km² making it the thirteenth largest prefecture in Japan by area.
Shizuoka is bordered by Kanagawa and Yamanashi to the north, Nagano to the northwest, Aichi to the west, and the Pacific Ocean to the south.
The capital is Shizuoka City, while Hamamatsu is the largest city by population and industry. Together they account for much of the prefecture’s 3.6 million residents. The historic Tōkaidō route and Shinkansen railway passes through here.
The Flag of Shizuoka was adopted on August 15th 1950. It features a blue field representing the Pacific ocean. A white outlined orange Mount Fuji-shaped emblem symbolizes the passion and unity of people.
