French Guiana is an overseas department and region of France. Located on the northeastern coast of South America it is bordered by Suriname and Brazil. The official language is French, and the capital and largest city is Cayenne.

The French government does not officially recognize the flag of French Guiana, as the official flag is the French tricolor. The unofficial flag features a diagonal design with a yellow top half and a green bottom half. At the center is a red five-pointed star. Green represents the forests, Yellow represents the gold and minerals found in the region, the red star stands for socialism.
