

Bangkok is the capital and most populous city of Thailand, located in the central part of the country on the Chao Phraya River delta near the Gulf of Thailand.
The city itself has an estimated population of 9.0 million, about 13% of the national population. The broader Bangkok Metropolitan Region is home to over 17.4 million, approximately 25% of Thailand’s total population.
One of the world’s top tourist destinations, the city is known for its many historic temples such as Wat Arun and Wat Phra Kaew and Grand Palace. It also has more modern landmarks including skyscrapers, and the BTS Skytrain system.
The flag of Bangkok features a green field with the city’s seal in white at the center. The seal depicts the Hindu god Indra riding in clouds on the mythological elephant Erawan. This is encircled by the city slogan.
