The Canary Islands are an autonomous community of Spain located in the Atlantic Ocean, off the northwestern coast of Africa. The archipelago includes eight main populated islands: Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro and La Graciosa. The official language is Spanish, and the capital cities are Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with Las Palmas de Gran Canaria being the largest city.

The Canarian flag, adopted in 1982, features three vertical bands of white, blue, and yellow. At the center it includes the coat of arms, which prominently features two Perro de Presa Canarios, or Canary Catch Dogs.
