

Chiba is located in the southeastern part of the Kantō region, forming much of the Bōsō Peninsula. It covers about 5,157 km², making it the 28th largest prefecture in Japan by area.
Chiba is bordered by Ibaraki to the north, Tokyo and Saitama to the west, and surrounded on three sides by water, the Pacific Ocean to the east, Tokyo Bay to the west, and the Tone River to the north.
The capital is Chiba City, part of the Greater Tokyo Area, with a population of about 980,000. Major cities include Funabashi, Matsudo, and Kashiwa. The prefecture’s total population of around 6.3 million, ranks it among the most populous in Japan. It is home to Tokyo Disneyland.
The flag of Chiba was adopted on June 21, 1963. It features a blue background with a stylized yellow outlined white emblem formed from a combination of katakana チ and ハ representing oil seed rape blossom – the prefectural flower.
