Massachusetts is a state located in the New England region of the United States. It is bordered by New Hampshire to the north, Vermont to the northwest, New York to the west, Connecticut and Rhode Island to the south, and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. The capital city of Massachusetts is Boston, which is also its largest city.

The flag of Massachusetts features a white field with a blue shield in the center. The shield depicts a Native American holding a bow and arrow, representing the indigenous people of the region. Above the shield is a white star, symbolizing Massachusetts as one of the original 13 colonies. The blue ribbon below the shield contains the state motto, “Ense petit placidam sub libertate quietem,” which translates to “By the sword we seek peace, but peace only under liberty.”
