Virginia is a state located in the southeastern region of the United States. It is bordered by Maryland to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, North Carolina and Tennessee to the south, and West Virginia and Kentucky to the west. The capital city of Virginia is Richmond, and its largest city is Virginia Beach.

The flag of Virginia consists of a deep blue field with the state seal in the center. The seal features a depiction of the Roman goddess Virtus, representing virtue, standing triumphantly over a defeated tyrant. She holds a spear and a sword, symbolizing Virginia’s readiness to defend her principles. The state motto, “Sic Semper Tyrannis,” meaning “Thus Always to Tyrants,” is written at the bottom of the seal.

State Song: “Carry Me Back to Old Virginny”

Motto: “Sic Semper Tyrannis” (Thus Always to Tyrants)
