Tehran تهران is the capital of Tehran province and capital and largest city of Iran, located in the north of the country at the foot of the Alborz Mountains. With a population of around 9.8 million in the city and 16.8 million in the metropolitan area it is the most populous city in Iran and Western Asia.
Most of the population are Persian, 99% of them speak the language. Landmarks include the Milad Tower, the sixth tallest self-supporting tower in the world and the Azadi Tower, a memorial built in 1971 to mark the 2,500th anniversary of the Persian Empire.
Tehran’s flag is a white field with the city’s seal in green, featuring Persian calligraphy of city’s name at the center. It is primarily used in local government and city events, the Iranian national flag is more commonly displayed.
