The CARICOM Flag

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is a Supranational union officially established on 4 July 1973 with the signing of the Treaty of Chaguaramas by four founding members: Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago.

Made up of Caribbean nations and dependencies, it currently has 15 full members and 7 associate members (upon approval of Martinique). 7 further states are observers with more limited powers. Members include both island nations and mainland countries.

The current observer states are: Aruba, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Sint Maarten, and Venezuela.

What are the objectives of CARICOM?

Originally, The Caribbean Community & Common Market, CARICOM aims to promote economic integration, coordinate foreign policy, and ensure the equitable development of its member states. Its headquarters are located in Georgetown, Guyana.

CARICOM’s flag features a blue field with a green-outlined yellow disc at the centre. Inside the disc are two black interlocking “C” letters, representing “Caribbean Community,” placed over a stylised blue sea and pale blue horizon.
