

Hyōgo Prefecture is located in the Kansai region of Honshu. It covers about 8,400 km², making it the 12th largest prefecture in Japan by area.
Hyogo is bordered by Kyoto and Osaka to the southeast, Okayama to the west, and Tottori to the northwest. The prefecture spans both the Sea of Japan and the Seto Inland Sea.
The capital is Kobe, other major cities include Himeji, Akashi, Amagasaki, and Nishinomiya. Landmarks include Himeji Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized as one of Japan’s finest surviving feudal castles and the scenic Tajima coast.
The flag of Hyogo was adopted on 10 June 1964 features a stylized Kanji character ‘兵’ Hyo in the shape of a wave on a pale blue background symbolizing the seas that surround the prefecture.
