Nova Scotia, one of Canada’s Maritime provinces, is located on the Atlantic coast and includes the mainland and Cape Breton Island. Nearly surrounded by ocean, it is bordered by New Brunswick and connected to the rest of Canada by the Isthmus of Chignecto.

The capital is Halifax, a port city and the largest urban centre in Atlantic Canada. Halifax is known for its historic waterfront, the Halifax Town Clock on Citadel Hill, and as the economic center of the region. The city played a major role in maritime history and during both World Wars.

Nova Scotia has a population with Scottish, Acadian, and Mi’kmaq heritage. Popular attractions include the Cabot Trail, Peggy’s Cove, Lunenburg (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and Kejimkujik National Park. The province is also famous for seafood.

The flag of Nova Scotia, adopted in 1929 and officially recognized in 2013, features a blue saltire on a white field, with the royal arms of Scotland in the centre. It reflects the province’s Scottish roots and is based on the Scottish flag with reversed colours.
